Philosophy
Below I’ve outlined the Nielsen Fitness philosophy and our beliefs on exercise and personal training:
The importance of exercise:
Everyone knows that exercise can help burn fat and build muscle. But did you know that the benefits of regular exercise go way beyond the obvious? Combined with healthy nutritional choices, exercise – strength training in particular - can prevent a number of illnesses including osteoporosis, depression, vertebral disk degeneration, headaches, arthritis, hypertension, memory loss, type 2 diabetes, and more.
Philosophy on personal training:
- Personal trainers are not just for the rich and famous!
Anyone – including you – can benefit from working out with a trainer. It’s our standard to make sure your workouts are safe and effective – two essential elements of any fitness plan. A Nielsen Fitness trainer will make sure you are setting realistic goals for yourself and we’ll help you achieve them. In addition to exercise we’ll give you the tools to eat a well balanced, healthy and nutritious diet. - A good workout is based on effective design, not expensive exercise equipment. If you have a full gym, or nothing but an exercise mat, we can teach you how to use what you’ve got to achieve results. This testimonial from a Nielsen Fitness client illustrates this fact perfectly.
- No two workouts should be the same. With Nielsen Fitness you don’t have to worry about being bored. Our sessions will be dynamic and fun. You will be challenged within your means and expected to work for the goals you desire.
Choosing a trainer:
Unfortunately, personal training is not a regulated industry. Because of this, the level of education and training can vary widely from trainer to trainer.
A good trainer will set realistic goals and design a strategy to achieve specific objectives. Your trainer should have a good network of physiotherapists, chiropractors and massage therapists to call upon. And knowledge of medications, injuries, physical and metabolic disorders is essential.
So ask a lot of questions. Check past references and education. Personality is also very important - your trainer should be a good communicator who is approachable and available to you.
