Sure you need motivation to get in shape – but you don’t need it to start. Here are 6 tips to help you take action – and become the fit person you’ve always wanted to be!
6 Tips to Take Action
Tip #1: Take Action – Today
Nike said it first; Just do it! Today. Sign yourself up for a class. Or a running group. Or a challenge. Or a personal trainer. It may seem obvious that we’d suggest that, but it’s one of the best things you can do if your motivation is lacking, as we’ll hold you accountable and be there knocking down your door or notifying you through Skype that your session is on!
Tip #2: Remove All Obstacles
If you want to work out in the morning, leave your running shoes and exercise clothes by your bed.
If you intend to exercise after work (or another activity), create a routine that keeps you clear of your sofa and any excuses! You get the idea – it’s all about eliminating opportunities to bail. (Again, hiring a trainer can really help with this.)
Tip #3: Replace Your Lazy Habits
Whether it’s scrolling through social media or watching TV or just snacking, it’s really easy to fall into a habitual routine of lazy habits. About 22% of Canadians claim that social media scrolling prevents them from being physically active.
If you’re having trouble finding time to exercise, ditching these habits (or becoming more strict with yourself about them) can help in a big way.
Tip #4: Surround Yourself With Positive Reinforcements
Much like “you are what you eat,” we also believe that “you become what you consume”. Thoughts are incredibly powerful, so be proactive about surrounding yourself with positive articles, podcasts, and people. When you make an effort to put “good stuff” in your mind, you’ll face fewer mental hurdles when it comes time to exercise. You can further choose to hire a trainer or recruit a workout buddy, creating that positive input to help you become the person you want to be.
Tip #5: Remember Your “Why”
Take some time to really think about why being fit and healthy is important to you – and remind yourself that you’re important and worth it!
Becoming clear about your “why” can help you muster up the self-discipline and motivation to work out. At Nielsen Fitness, this is why we help individuals set their top three goals and state why they are important as part of our intake process. Doing so gives our clients reasons why to reflect back on and refer to when times get tough.
Tip #6: Think About The Alternative
Consider the repercussions of not prioritizing your health and wellness; what will it cost you?
Regular exercise comes with significant benefits. It can help prevent Alzheimer’s disease, help you maintain independence at any age, ensure you don’t injure yourself, and more! Studies further show that regular physical activity reduces one’s risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. It can also help reduce joint aches and pains, which can happen due to being overweight or out of shape.
Most of us want to age gracefully. We want to see our grandchildren grow up. Exercise can help you get there. At Nielsen Fitness, our team of personal trainers in Torontois here for you. Allow us to help you get back into shape and take back control of your health!
